Methodology

Every figure we publish is derived from the UK Government's Fuel Finder feed (The Motor Fuel Price (Open Data) Regulations 2025), operated by VE3.

Where the data comes from

Stations are legally required to report a price change to the scheme within 30 minutes. We read that feed and publish it unedited alongside our own statistics.

Eligible recent reports

A station only reports when its price changes, so a timestamp can be weeks old even when nothing is wrong. All averages, "lowest reported" figures and spreads on this site are calculated only from eligible recent reports — prices updated within 14 days. We state how many stations that covers on every page, so an old outlier can never claim to be today's cheapest.

Price spread

The spread is the gap between the lowest and highest reported price among eligible reports. It is not a guaranteed saving on your journey.

Corrections

Prices are published by the station. If something is wrong, report it to GOV.UK and it is corrected at source.
