HMRC mileage vs real fuel cost
HMRC lets you claim 45p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles in a car. This calculator compares that with what the fuel actually costs at today's average price.

What the difference means
- If the allowance is higher than your fuel cost, the difference helps cover insurance, servicing, tyres and depreciation. It is not a pure profit figure, and it is not tax advice.
- The 45p rate applies to cars and vans for the first 10,000 business miles; it drops to 25p after that. Motorcycles use 24p per mile.
- HMRC sets the rates and can change them.
